Abyssinia Design is a team inspired by the culture of Ethiopia and Africa. We like to combine mainly the color, typography, patterns and much more and create unique designs. Our designs mainly focus on minimalism, because when a design is not overcrowded the audience tends to be more receptive.
Being self-taught gives us the advantage of figuring out the easiest way to gather ideas. Our designs are pure reflections of our imagination. So, we try to take as much information from our culture and way of life to develop the concept for our creative works.
Our process can be broken down into concept developing, art directing and communicating. We are still learning and experimenting with combining different cultures, observing nature and attempting to create simple designs that can combine these without being too much. We enjoy the creative process and that’s what keeps us going.
Starting-out we didn’t expect too many challenges, especially in gathering information which is essential to be inspired to create. The internet is our best friend here. However, it is not as accessible as it should be.
Creatives are getting more recognition and we do get a lot of support from our audience. There is a healthy dose of competition as well. In the end, we hope to see more design studios and designers create more and help raise the profile of the design industry.
What Makes Design Local
We believe design is local if it has the cultural touch of the host. Of course, it’s better if the design is developed under recognizable themes and traits of a specific culture. It should reflect the patterns, the colors, and the shapes to help the intended audience recognize its origin.
The goal is to become a design studio. In the meantime, we do what we can to contribute to the creative industry and expand our input.
